Biography

Dr.Amar Singh, works as a Senior Consultant, ENT and Rhinoplasty surgeon, at the Dept of ENT- Head & Neck Surgery, Al Nahdha Hospital (Ministry of Health), a tertiary care teaching hospital at Muscat, Oman. Oman, situated in eastern part of Arabian Peninsula is a beautiful country blessed with natural beauty of pristine beaches and a landscape interspersed with low mountains and desert. Dr.Amar Singh has special interest and trained in Facial Plastic surgery specially Functional & Aesthetic Surgery of Nose.  Over the last 30 years, he has operated upon a large series of more than 4500 cases of difficult and challenging traumatic, twisted noses of primary and secondary cases. Rhinoplasty in Middle East is becoming increasingly popular due to host of factors – cultural changes, awareness and media exposure etc.  Omani Arabic nose, (in a population of mixed ethnicity of Arabs, Zanzibari and Balushi tribes) is characterized by moderate to thick skin, weak cartilages, and bony –cartilaginous humps. Heavy, boxy tip, wide nasal pyramid, deviated nose profile with severe septal deformities are common presentations.  Unlike Caucasian and rest of Middle Eastern noses, Omani noses are not homogenous; hence the operating surgeon needs thorough preoperative analysis and surgical planning and dexterity. Awareness of ethnicity and aesthetic demands of Omani patients are much different from other populations. Dr.Amar Singh will share his rich experience of such cases. He conducts annual Rhinoplasty Courses in Muscat since 2004 with hands on dissection of fresh frozen cadavers to train young ENT and plastic surgeons. This course is very popular in the region. He is invited faculty & speaker for many international Rhinoplasty courses and meetings. He has many publications in local and international journals and also authored a book “ Basic Septorhinoplasty- Practical step to step approach”
