■ Managing the Septum as a requisite to a successful primary rhinoplasty and Correcting the Septum in secondary rhinoplasty
LEVEL
C – Advanced
CONTENTS
Importance of the septum for function as well as for aesthetics.
The different deformities require different techniques. In most cases standard techniques are sufficient, but severly deformed septums may need a partial or total extracorporeal septal reconstruction, particularly with regard to a good and reliable longterm result.
When the importance of the septum is underestimated and these principles are not respected sufficiently the rhinoplasty may fail and a secondary procedure may become necessary, which usually means a more complex revision.
OBJECTIVES
- Understanding the importance of the septum as central element of the nasal framework with its great impact for the function as well as for the aesthetic outcome.
- Understanding the classification of the different deformities and consequently the different indications and different surgical techniques in primary as well as in secondary rhinoplasties.
- Understanding the principles and technical details of partial and total extracorporeal septal reconstruction and how to avoid complications.
