Biography

Professor Toriumi is a full time faculty member of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, and Head of the Division of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Toriumi is board certified by both the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, certifying him in all areas of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.

As a professor in the Department of Otolaryngology, Dr. Toriumi teaches residents and fellows. He participates in a fellowship program sponsored by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, teaching his specialized techniques. Dr. Toriumi is also involved in several research projects that are related to reconstructive surgery of the head and neck.

He co-authored a medical textbook entitled “Open Structure Rhinoplasty” which describes a popular technique in rhinoplasty surgery. More recently, Dr. Toriumi published a “Rhinoplasty Dissection Manual’ that covers many of the techniques he presently utilizes. He has also published more than 125 medical papers as well as numerous book chapters. Dr. Toriumi is frequently invited to share his expertise and has made more than 700 presentations at meetings all over the world.

Dr. Toriumi has previously served as the President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Listed as one of the top five best Rhinoplasty surgeons in the world by W Magazine, Dr. Toriumi is a board certified facial plastic surgeon who is primarily known for his expertise in Rhinoplasty with an emphasis on secondary/revision Rhinoplasty, or correction of noses damaged by previous surgery.
