Biography
Peter A. Adamson, OOnt, MD, FRCSC, FACS, is recognized as an international surgeon, teacher and leader in facial plastic surgery. He studied head and neck surgery at the University of Toronto and was awarded the prestigious McLaughlin Fellowship to study facial plastic surgery at Tulane University in New Orleans. He established his private practice in 1981 and his surgical centre in 1999 in Toronto.
Dr. Adamson is on staff at The Toronto General Hospital in the University Health Network. He is a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Adamson lectures nationally and internationally on the latest advances in facial plastic surgery. He has contributed more than 240 scientific publications to the medical literature and made hundreds of medical presentations and surgical demonstrations in over 40 countries. Dr. Adamson published Fabulous Faces, the critically acclaimed patient guide to cosmetic facial surgery.
Dr. Adamson’s expertise includes cosmetic and reconstructive nasal surgery, revision nasal surgery and facial rejuvenation surgery as well as other facial plastic surgery procedures. He has served as President of both the Canadian and American Academies of Facial and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and has received numerous major honours and awards for his professional contributions.
Dr. Adamson is a peer reviewer for many specialty journals in his field. He was instrumental in creating the board examination and is past President of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and current President of the international Board for Certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Adamson is a Senior Advisor to several national and international organizations and boards.
In 1996, Dr. Adamson founded Face the Future™ Foundation, a humanitarian medical organization that sponsors overseas surgical missions for surgeons to operate on children and adults with congenital and traumatic facial deformities as well as other complex surgical conditions. Since 2019, he has focused on expanding the Foundation’s humanitarian mission work, teaching, and developing international training programs and specialty certification boards.
In 2016, Dr. Adamson was appointed to the Order of Ontario, the Province of Ontario’s highest honour in recognition of his outstanding qualities of individual excellence and achievement in surgical teaching, professional leadership and surgical missions.
